Exploring Swingers

Exploring Swingers!

Wonderful Wednesday!

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to BCS from May 27-30.  Check the Book Fair website for sale hours and volunteer information: http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/bpscovington

Family Fiesta Night  is Thursday, May 29th from 4:30 -7:30 PM  Join the BCS community for an evening of food, fun and even shop the book fair during our special evening hours! Look for more information next month.

Language Arts:  We will be researching a self selected topic of interest during our expository writing unit.  During our expository writing unit, we are  developing and supporting main ideas in our writing as well as incorporating transition words (such as first, second, and most importantly). We've learned that these words help guide the reader through the explanation. We have talked about the various types of expository writing and are practicing them in class. We are doing this alongside the writing we do in all subjects each day!

Social Studies:   In Michigan history we looked at the period of time when Europeans came over and encountered the Native Americans.  Now we are focused on how our land became a territory and then a state.

Science:  We are beginning to explore more in our unit on Variables.  This unit will last for several weeks and it is a lot of fun!

Marvelous Monday!

Special thanks to Nicholas Thornton, BPS Energy & Sustainability Coordinator, for speaking with us today about energy. We talked all about how energy can change forms, how some energy get's 'lost'(usually as heat) when we generate electricity or transport electricity from the power plant to our school, and about different kinds of light bulbs (Incandescent, CFL, & LED) There were lots of great questions from the students!
