Today we read chapter 17 in Maniac Magee! In the afternoon we presented our Native American photostory with Mrs. Frishmans's class. We learned so much about their lifestyle.

We wanted to share with you a summary of this most interesting chapter!

It was a very hot day and Magee enters a vacant lot where lots of kids are playing around an open fire hydrant. Suddenly, a man sticks his finger right in Magee's face and calls him whitey. The man then tells Magee to go back where he belongs. Magee is confused because as far as he is concerned, this is where he belongs. The man is referring to the West End, of course. Hester and Lester run to Magee's side to defend him. The man is ranting that black people should stick to their own kind.
Magee has trouble sleeping so he starts waking up early to run, so early that even Bow Wow the dog doesn't even get up with him. He is also running faster and wants to run alone. One day.....

Just want to let you know that I will not be here on Thursday or Friday this week. Sloan and Steele have the opportunity to visit Mickey Mouse and both sets of grandparents for an 11 day trip over the December break. I am so sorry to miss those days, but we will have Ms. Zink here and she will carry out the plans as usual. She knows how things run and she will keep the learning going! I will return on Monday, January 4th for a great new year with you!

On Friday we will have our class holiday party! The parents in our room have planned a great party for the kids. The party is from 12:30-1:30pm and all parents are welcome to attend!

Thank you so much to the chaperones who joined us for the Ford Rouge factory tour today. We had a lot of fun and learned so much about how the F150 is assembled. The students also learned about the history behind the plant's development and how the changes in production speed, the work environment and technology have effected the automobile industry. Please enjoy the pictures of our trip in the class photostream.

After the break, we will be starting our next science unit on Ecosystems! For this unit, we will need many clear 2-liter bottles. If you have some at home, please tear off the labels, rinse them out, and send them in! We appreciate your help with this exciting unit!

We will be going to the Environmental Center TOMORROW! As scientists, we have been studying the interactions of earth systems-air water and soil this year. On Wednesday, we will be outside taking soil samples and inside exploring the chemistry of water. It is supposed to be really cold on Wednesday and a portion of our trip will be outside. We have found that layering clothing and jackets works well for variable temperatures. A HAT AND GLOVES will also be needed. Please check the weather and dress appropriately for the day. We will be back at 11:00 for lunch at BCS.

It was a Marvelous Monday in room 204.
We will be going to the Environmental Center on Wednesday!

These parents signed up as chaperones for our upcoming field trip to the Rouge Factory tour on December 14th. If you will not be able to join us, please let me know. You will enjoy this trip!
